Goodbye Harold?
Thu 19th June 2008
Now, Harold Bishop has been a part of Ramsay Street on and off since 1988. Can he really be leaving Erinsborough for good? What will Lou do?
Ian Smith (who plays Harold Bishop) has had some great story lines over the years. Harold hasn't always been the mild-mannered guy running the general store with Lou Carpenter. Harold came to Ramsay Street after meeting his childhood sweetheart, Madge Mitchell. Who could forget the emergence of 'evil Harold'? After suffering a stroke, Harold gave up being a vegetarian, started drinking alcohol and gambling.
Of course, the biggest Harold story was when he vanished in the foam of the sea. A wave whisked him away and then, after a good period of time, he was found by Helen Daniels. Harold had lost his memory and was going by the name of Ted. Did you know Ted was a reference to a character Ian Smith had previously played in Prisoner Cell Block H?
Over the years, Harold has veered between bedrock for the whole of Ramsey Street, as well as teaming up with Lou, becoming one of the finest double acts in soap history.
We'll miss you Harold!
